Credentials

Peter Farnbank has a private practice as a Psychological Therapist and Hypnotherapist/Hypnoanalyst in Blackpool, Lancashire. He started his practice overseas in 1987, and his practice in Blackpool, Lancashire, has been established since 1990. This makes him one of the longest established therapists in the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre areas.

Peter's memberships of professional organisations are as follows:

  • Associate Fellow of The British Psychological Society
  • Member of the Hypnotherapy Association
  • Member of The British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis (BSCAH) (formerly British Society of Medical & Dental Hypnosis and British Society of Experimental & Clinical Hypnosis amalgamated)
  •

As a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) Peter is bound by the Code of Conduct under the British Psychological Society. Membership of other professional organisations means that he is also bound by their codes of practice and professional conduct. He is also a Registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HPC).

Apart from being a therapist Peter is also a member of the BPS's Psychotherapy Section and Special Group for Coaching Psychology. Coaching psychology is a discipline which looks at developing achievement, performance, creativity and quality of life in individuals or organisations, based on psychological principles which are founded on scientific research.

In 2011 Peter was granted the status of "Chartered Scientist" (CSci), a recognition given through the partnership of the British Psychological Society and The Science Council. A CSci is required to apply critical scientific enquiry in any aspect of his work, to maintain a robust regime of "Continual Professional Development" (CPD) as well as undertake continual analysis of all updating of his knowledge and skills. Where the CSci is a practitioner, he is then expected to apply this analysis in order to further develop the professional services he offers the public.

Peter was a Founding Director of the Hypnotherapy Association. He was also its Executive Secretary from 2000 to 2003, where his remit ranged from general management to professional supervision of practising therapists. He also had a remit in exercising executive powers in organisational development. He stepped down as Executive Secretary to devote more energy to his private practice.

Peter is deeply interested in Music Psychology, especially in the domains of how music can develop learning and resilience against illness, particularly cognitive-neurological ones.
